Damaraland Camp in Namibia’s Torra Conservancy is surrounded by rugged mountains and is one of the driest regions in Africa. However, the environment supports a surprising amount of wildlife on so little water. The camp is the ideal place for a walking safari to track desert-adapted elephants and black rhinos. Other activities include trips to ancient rock art sites, stargazing, or relaxing in the pool. Damaraland camp is not as luxurious as some of the Wilderness Safaris premier camps, but the adobe thatched villas embrace a stylish yet spartan aesthetic well suited to the barren environment.
Damaraland Camp is also a model for community-based conservation. The lodge supports the Torra people who were displaced from the local area in the early 20th century and relocated in the 1970s.
