Enonkishu Conservancy, Greater Masai Mara, Kenya
House in the Wild is a small, family-owned eco-lodge on the banks of the Mara River, set on the thousand-acre Naretoi estate in the Enonkishu Conservancy at the northern edge of the Greater Mara. It was built by Tarquin and Lippa Wood, who founded the conservancy and turned former overgrazed farmland into a rewilding project with a community grazing plan and a training centre for Maasai pastoralists. Seven en-suite cottages — four river-facing doubles and three two-bedroom family cottages, sleeping around sixteen in all — sit around a pool, a thatched gazebo and a Swahili-style lounge and bar. Game drives range across the Enonkishu, Ol Chorro and Lemek conservancies, alongside bush walks, horse riding, e-biking and community visits — an unpretentious, conservation-led base that works equally for families and honeymooners.
