Lekkerwater Beach Lodge is a beautiful stop in the Western Cape for travelers exploring South Africa’s scenic Garden Route. The lodge is located among the dunes of the 84,000-acre De Hoop Nature Reserve, which is known to be one of the best locations in Africa for land-based whale watching. From July to November, Southern Right Whales gather in the warm waters to birth calves and breed. The reserve is also part of the fynbos ecosystem, which has an amazing diversity of unique flora that visitors can explore on the many nature trails. Cape mountain zebra and eland are also present on the reserve, but the flora and beach are the primary focus of the experience.
All suites at Lekkerwater Beach lodge overlook a long stretch of open beach and have private decks and floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize the view. They are decorated in a tasteful azure-toned beach style that compliments their surroundings. Romantic dinners by campfire or lunch picnics on the beach are also available and are the perfect way to unwind and take in the spectacular location.
Note: The reserve also includes the De Hoop Marine Protected Area, which stretches 30 miles along the beach and three miles out to sea, so fishing is not allowed nearby.
