Lapa Rios Lodge is a luxury ecolodge located on 1,000 acres of protected rainforest on Costa Rica’s southern Osa Peninsula. Howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and coatis make themselves at home on the property, and there are regular sightings of the iconic scarlet macaw. The 17 open-air bungalows are located on a ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean and are integrated into the natural environment. They all include outdoor showers, large decks, and private pools. The lodge is sustainability-minded and uses exclusively local staff and sources food and materials that are organic, biodegradable, and/or renewable. There is no air conditioning, but the sea breeze keeps the lodge cool without using electricity. Unlike some other jungle lodges, Lapa Rios has access to several beaches in the Golf Dulce. Walk along the shore or dive in for surfing, kayaking, and seasonal humpback whale watching.
The primary purpose of the lodge is to support the preservation of the surrounding rainforest through tourism. Tours of the Lapa Rios reserve are offered day–and night–by experienced guides who share their passion for the plants and animals that live here. Guests can see sloths, anteaters, armadillos, ocelots, and a variety of other mammals and birds on nature walks. A visit to nearby Corcovado National Park, the most pristine remaining rainforest in Costa Rica is a must–jaguars and tapirs still roam here!
