Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

The Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is comprised of two luxury lodges and over 8,500 acres of dramatic coastline in South Africa’s Western Cape, only 2.5 hours from Cape Town. The reserve is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom and is home to over 860 species of plants. Floral 4×4 safaris are available to experience the show put on by their blossoms. The area is also one of the best places for a marine safari in Africa. Whales, great white sharks, seals, and penguins are all found in the coastal waters. Other popular activities include hiking, horseback riding, bird watching, cave tours, and wine tasting. Visit from July to December for the best flower viewing and whale watching.

Each of the lodges on the reserve has a unique personality. Garden Lodge is an open and welcoming lodge for all ages. Children will love visiting the horse stables which include a play area with rabbits, ducks, and other friendly animals. Forest Lodge is the more sophisticated option and includes a bar, lounge, infinity pool, and multiple restaurant options. Both lodges have large windows and decks that offer expansive views of the mountains and coastline. Grootbos is dedicated to conservation and has been measuring its carbon footprint for almost a decade. A stay here also supports the Grootbos Foundation, which conserves this unique landscape through tree planting, education, and community development.
