Botswana safari

Botswana

Best time · May – Nov

Botswana beats Namibia on wildlife hands down. Water flows year-round through the Chobe and Okavango, drawing big herds of elephant, hippo, and lechwe — and the predators that follow them. With two weeks and recent air-connectivity improvements, you can even link the two for a 'desert to delta' safari, starting in Sossusvlei and ending in the Okavango.

Warmest around Oct (daily highs near 36°C / 97°F); coolest around Jun (25°C / 77°F); wettest in Jan (~192 mm); driest in Apr–Oct. Based on 2021–2025 averages at Okavango Delta.

Namibia

Best time · Mar – Nov

Namibia and Botswana are a study in contrasts. Namibia is famous for its deserts and great dune fields, and works better as a landscape safari than a pure wildlife one — travelers come for hiking, biking, and helicopter flights as much as game. Etosha National Park does hold good wildlife, but think of it as a bonus rather than the main event. It's also a wonderful destination for adventurous self-drivers.

Warmest around Oct and Nov (daily highs near 35°C / 95°F); coolest around Jun (25°C / 77°F); wettest in Jan and Mar (~116 mm); driest in May–Oct. Based on 2021–2025 averages at Etosha.
