Odzala-Kokoua National Park lies at the heart of the Congo Rainforest. It is the second-largest rainforest in the world, and one of the best places in the world to see forest elephants and a variety of unique birds. Lango Camp is located along Lango Baï, a swampy clearing in the park’s southern forests that attracts a wide variety of wildlife because of its mineral richness. The stands on tall stilts almost 15 feet above the water and are made of natural materials. The lodge and the six palm-thatched chalets all have magical views of the bai for wildlife viewing. Amenities here are more limited, but the camp is rustically stylish and its footprint is ultra-light. Rooms do include an en suite bath with a hot shower, which is all you need to unwind after beautiful a day of hiking through the forest.
Congo Conservation Company, the operator of Lango Camp, is pioneering ecotourism in the basin to help protect this special place. Lango Camp combines well with their other properties in the area–gorilla trekking at Ngaga Camp or an expedition into the remote Dzanga-Sangha in the Central African Republic.
