The Borana Conservancy is a 32,000-acre wildlife reserve located on the Laikipia Plateau at the foot of Mount Kenya 6,500 feet above sea level. The cool and dry plains of the former cattle ranch are now home to lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and a variety of other species. These can be seen on game drives and walks, but the conservancy is a particularly scenic landscape for horseback riding safaris.
Borana Lodge is located in the central part of the conservancy and is comprised of eight luxury cottages clustered around a main lodge on a hilltop. Bathing elephants are regularly spotted from the lodge’s large infinity pool, which overlooks the Hyena Valley Dam below. The thatched luxury cottages all have cozy fireplaces and views of the surrounding hillsides–some even to Mount Kenya in the distance. Due to the altitude, the conservancy is malaria-free, making it a great destination for family safaris.
