Chem Chem Lodge is one of three luxury safari camps set on almost 50,000 private acres along the shores of Lake Manyara in Northern Tanzania. The lake is famous for its congregations of thousands of pink flamingoes, though their presence isn’t guaranteed. Immediately east of the reserve is the 1000 square mile Tarangire National Park, home of large tuskers and open savannah.
Chem Chem bills itself as a slow safari destination and guests are encouraged to embrace natural wellness through guided Maasai walks, lazy afternoons at the spa, al fresco fine dining, or sundowners on the lakeshore. The lodge and eight tented are light-filled and surrounded by grazing zebra and ancient baobab trees. Chem Chem Lodge is closed from mid-March through May for the rainy season. The dry season from June to October is best for wildlife viewing. We recommend starting your northern Tanzania circuit with Chem Chem as an alternative to the more crowded Ngorongoro Crater.
