Marataba Mountain Lodge is a five-room, off-grid retreat in the 50,000-acre Marataba concession of Marakele National Park, in the malaria-free Waterberg Mountains north of Johannesburg. The design is minimalist and Scandinavian, with large decks, an infinity pool, and views over a cliff-lined valley. Alongside daily game drives, its signature is a network of hiking trails, from tracking elephant on foot to climbing a mountain peak, and guests can add a night in the two-story Thabametsi Treehouse with a rooftop star bed. No children under 16.
