Lemala Wild Waters occupies a private island mid-stream in the River Nile, about 25km downstream of Jinja in eastern Uganda, reached only by boat. Ten elevated timber suites are nestled in rainforest and linked by raised walkways to the restaurant, bar and library, each with glass frontage, a rain shower and a deck with an open-air bathtub above the rapids. Perched on granite amid roaring white water, it pairs adventure — rafting, bungee, horse riding, fishing — with excellent birding on Uganda's thousand-plus species.
