Greystoke Mahale is Nomad Tanzania's barefoot-luxury camp on the white-sand shore of Lake Tanganyika, reached only by boat and one of the best places in the world to trek wild chimpanzees in Mahale Mountains National Park. It is six thatched bandas built partly from reclaimed dhow hulls, each with an upstairs relaxation deck looking over the lake; there are no plunge pools, and the focus stays firmly on the experience. Beyond daily chimp treks, guests can kayak, dive and swim in Africa's largest lake. Children eight and older are welcome, though chimp trekking requires age twelve.
