Olderkesi Conservancy, Maasai Mara, Kenya
Cottar's Bush Villa was the first private house built in the Maasai Mara, an exclusive-use retreat on the Cottar family's 7,600-acre Olderkesi Conservancy with long views toward the Serengeti. The 10,000-square-foot villa sleeps up to twelve across five en-suite bedrooms, around open-plan living and dining rooms, a bar, three viewing decks, a private massage room, an outdoor hot tub and a 25-metre pool. It is taken on a sole-use basis and comes fully staffed — a private chef, dedicated safari guide and vehicle, house team and a complimentary nanny — which suits families and groups travelling together. Game drives, guided walks and cultural visits run on your own schedule across the conservancy and the neighbouring reserve. It was the first property in Kenya to win World Travel Market's Best Private Villa in Africa.
