The almost 50,000-acre Naibosho Conservancy is one of the largest private conservancies along the northern border of the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Naibosho is a wonderful example of a successful community tourism partnership. The land in the conservancy is leased from 500 Maasai families, providing them with a valuable income, while protecting important wildlife habitat. Mara Nyika is a luxurious tented camp located on the western edge of the reserve under a canopy of umbrella-thorn trees. The five incredibly spacious canvas suites stand on tall raised decks, which gives the camp a treehouse feel. Each of the tents also includes a large copper soaking tub and a professional camera setup to use during your stay.
There are fewer vehicles allowed in the private conservancies and more than enough wildlife to satisfy any safari goer, including herds of migrating wildebeest, so guests may not want to cross into the actual Maasai Mara Reserve. The only element missing in Naibosho is the famous Great Migration river crossings, but excursions to the Mara River by Land Rover or hot air balling can be arranged by the camp.
