Morocco is a diverse cultural and natural destination that has sat along the crossroads of trade routes between Africa and Europe for thousands of years. It is still one of the most cosmopolitan places in North Africa, and it’s only a seven-hour flight from New York. Casablanca is the commercial capital and the central international air hub. From there, you can access the historically vibrant cities of Marrakech and Fez or venture further into nature. The Atlas Mountains are dotted with Berber villages and high peaks that are excellent for trekking, and clear nights in the Sahara Desert are awe-inducing. Be mindful that Morocco is a deceptively large country, so travel time must be considered. However, you will get good value for your money here, and there is an excellent selection of hotels, from tented camps to opulent riads and kasbahs.
