Ethiopia - Fauna Travel

Ethiopia

Ethiopia is a land of ancient history. The oldest remains of early hominids and modern humans have been found here, and the Kingdom of Axum (150BCE – 750CE) is considered one of the great classical civilizations. Since antiquity, local kingdoms flourished and even resisted the onslaught of Europe’s “scramble for Africa” until World War 2. The country has been embroiled in factional fighting off and on since the war, but despite this, Ethiopia remains safe to visit and one of Africa’s most popular destinations. Cultural tours visit the traditional tribes of the Omo Valley and the beautiful sunken churches of Lalibela, while outdoor expeditions include treks through the Simien Mountains and visits to the Danakil Depression, one of the hottest places on earth. Addis Ababa is the largest air hub on the continent, so it’s easy to access Ethiopia directly from North America or as an extension of a trip to South or East Africa.
