Turtle Inn is a classic Belize resort in the up-and-coming town of Placencia. There are blue Caribbean waters, and this is the best option if you want to leave the resort and spend time in a town. The resort can organize snorkeling and fishing trips to Belize’s famous reefs. You can also borrow bikes or arrange zipline tours. Belize City is a 2.5-hour direct flight from Houston, and from there, you can take a 30-minute flight to Placencia. June is technically the rainy season in Central America, but it hits later in Belize than in Costa Rica, so there will be clear skies and possibly scattered showers. For anyone interested, this trip can be extended a few more nights at a jungle lodge in the interior for Mayan ruins and ocelots.
They may have a fifth-night free offer, but I need to confirm that it’s still valid for 2025. There are multiples of all of these rooms available except where noted.

Isla Palenque is on a private island in northern Panama. From Panama City, you will fly 1hr to the city of David, where you will take a boat ride to the resort. The flight from Houston to Panama City (4.5hr) can connect to David, while the flight from Austin requires an overnight layover. It’s secluded, and you won’t leave the island. However, there are many activities like snorkeling, jungle hikes (with monkeys), kayaking, and yoga. This trip can be extended to a couple of nights in Panama City at the American Trade Hotel for groups that want to see more culture. The weather should be like Costa Rica in June. There will be afternoon showers, but hopefully not overwhelming because it’s early in the rainy season.
Beachfront Casita – 8 available
5brm Beachfront Villa Estate – 1 available
Kamalame is a barefoot luxury location on a private island. It’s an excellent place to unwind for a while, and you’re paying for the seclusion more than the luxury. You can go fishing, kayak, or sup from the beach, and relax at a slower pace. I’ve also secured a 5% discount, but their dynamic pricing system could push these higher if a lot book up. For a big group, a charter flight from Nassau to Andros is likely the best option, but there are daily afternoon flights for any stragglers. June is technically hurricane season, but it’s low risk until later in July. I’ve requested some reassurance on the negative review with theft and am waiting to hear back.
