Neha & Max’s Zambian Honeymoon Adventure

Elephant Crossing the Zambezi River / Scott Dubois

July to September 2026

I love your dedication to wilderness, and the Lower Zambezi is one of the most beautiful places to safari in Africa. I’ve outlined some options below for an extended trip down the Zambezi, along with some possible extensions.

Since it’s your first safari, I would suggest booking from late July to early September, so you get a peak wildlife experience. This is high season, so prices will be 20-30% higher than in early June – however it’s worth the expense. Prices below are based on this timing, but availability is not guaranteed. However, if your schedule is flexible I think we can make it work. Domestic flight costs are also quoted at the bottom.

Part 1: Chula Island & Kutali Camp

Based on our conversation, I think starting with either Kutali or Chula Island Camps in lower Zambezi will be ideal. They are beloved by safari purists, with great guides, and one of the best locations for canoeing in Zambia. There isn’t a lot too them, but it the beds are cozy and they really immerse you in the wild. Spend days here on game drives, walking, and on canoe/boat safaris.

I would split the stay between the two camps. If you stay six nights, you get one night free and free flights.

  • $1,020 per person per night
  • 6 night offer – $5,700 per person (and includes free round trip flights from Lusaka)

Part 2 – Option A: Dulini Anabezi

Dulini Anabezi is the best option to extend the Lower Zambezi for a luxury finish for a truly slow safari. It’s also about three miles downstream from Kutali, making it the most accessible camp by canoe. This is a true luxury lodge with large elevated tents and private plunge pools.

  • $1,955 per person per night
  • Dulini has a honeymoon offer for 50% off the bride’s rate if you stay four nights.

Part 2 – Option B: South Luangwa National Park

If you have time for another stop on safari, South Luangwa is a natural compliment to the Lower Zambezi. The park is the birthplace of the walking safari and has some of my favorite small bush camps of 4-6 tents. One of the of the great pleasures of the park is that you can walk from camp to camp. They also have lots of giraffes, which aren’t naturally in Lower Zambezi, and are one of my favorite animals.

If you do an extended safari with Anabezi, I would book these before Lower Zambezi. However, I would consider ending here if you are only doing Chula Island and Kutali camps because they are more comfortable.

There are a couple of good options for South Luangwa shown below.

Chindeni & Bimilungwe

Chindeni & Bimilungwe have good guides, were recently remodeled, and are slightly more affordable.

  • $1,176 per person per night

Mchenja & Luwi

Mchenja and Luwi are comparable to the above but offer better food and decor. Luwi is pretty minimalist but in a great way.

  • Mchenja: $1,300 per person per night
  • Luwi: $1,130 per person per night

Getting There

Zambia / Scott Dubois
Zambia / Scott Dubois

Flight costs are variable, but the following will give you a rough idea of what you’ll pay. Most visitors to Zambia will fly into Lusaka. However, you can also come in via Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe if you want to explore an African town. It’s not too expensive and much smaller than Livingstone on the Zambian side (35k vs 150k people).

  • Flights between Lusaka and Lower Zambezi: $270 each way (approx)
  • Helicopter to Lower Zambezi (A wow way to start the trip): $750 each way (approx)
  • Flights between Lusaka and Mfuwe: $350 each way (approx)
