This romantic Costa Rican getaway balances adventure and relaxation, beginning with the natural thermal springs and activities at Rio Perdido and ending with Secrets Papagayo on the Pacific coast. It’s the perfect setting to celebrate surrounded by tropical beauty. I’m also excited you’ll get to see monkeys!

I’ve included current prices below for hotels and the one transfer between them. I need to look into how their shuttles work. Some activities are included at Rio Perdido but those at Secrets would be extra.

June 24: Arrive in Liberia

Your driver from Guanacaste Viajes will meet you at the terminal and drive you one hour east of Liberia to Rio Perdido Resort. They are monitoring your flight and will arrive on time with a sign that says “Laura Dunham.” Enjoy a welcome cocktail and settle in to your room before going for a soak in the thermal river before dinner. This package of inclusive of food but not drinks.

The 2-night adventure package includes:

  • Welcome cocktail
  • Two breakfasts, lunches and dinners served a la carte
  • One adventure activity. Choose either tubing or canyon adventure
  • Access to the thermal river and use of the natural pools of the river
  • Volcanic mud bath available at the river
  • One morning guided hike
  • One morning yoga class

Terms and Conditions:

  • Check-in: 3:00 pm / Check- out: 12:00 pm. Guests are welcome to enjoy our facilities and services (swimming pools, thermal river, trails, spa, restaurant, lockers, showers, changing rooms) before check-in and after check-out. 
  • Breakfast is a la carte and includes high altitude organic brewed coffee or tea infusions, our juice of the day, a small plate of locally-grown fruit and one option from the menu. Additional items and sides are subject to an extra charge.
  • In accordance with Costa Rica Law #9028, smoking and vaping  is forbidden in any public areas in the country. Also, ALL rooms at Rio Perdido are non-smoking /vaping units. Therefore, if you need to smoke/vape, please consult the reception for information regarding designated smoking/vaping  areas.
  • Personal music players may not be used in any of the common areas, including the thermal river. If you absolutely must listen to your music while outside of your room, you must use headphones.
  • Parking available on a complimentary basis.
  • Cancellation Policy: You may cancel your reservation for no charge 30 days before arrival. If, after that period, you cancel for any reason, attempt to modify this reservation, or do not arrive on your specified check-in date, your payment will be non-refundable. Payment is due 30 days prior the arrival date.

3) Sun, June 29 – Secrets Papagayo → Liberia Airport (LIR)

  • Flight: United Airlines UA 1036 (departs 11:05 AM)
  • Recommended pick-up: 8:00 AM (arrives with comfortable time for check-in/security)
  • Rate: $68 USD
  • Estimated drive time: ~45 min

June 25: Rio Perdido Adventure

Spend your second day at Rio Perdido on a canyon adventure, where you’ll get to zip-line through a scenic jungle canyon.

June 26: To the Pacific Coast

Check out time is noon, so hopefully you can enjoy a morning hike or yoga class before departure. A private driver from Guanacaste Viajes will pick you up for the 1.5 hour drive to Secrets at noon.

June 27: Secrets Beach

Hotel: Secrets Papagayo

Enjoy a day of relaxing at the beach, enjoying a drink at the pool, or paddle boarding/surfing depending on the weather.

June 28: Secrets Final Day

This is your last full day, so I would choose your own adventure to end on a high note. It could be another zipline (Witches Rock or Diamante Adventure Park are nearby), ATVs, kayaking, or simply getting a massage and enjoying another day of relaxation.

June 29: Departure

A driver from Guanacaste Viajes will pick you up at 7am and take you from Secrets back to the Liberia Airport in the morning.
