5 Days | February or March 2024 | Budget $5-8k

Hotel prices listed are after tax but before food and beverage – unless noted as inclusive of breakfast. Suggested flights with current prices are linked as well. Currently, nothing is on hold, so pricing and availability are subject to change.

Fly fishing charters average around $650 for a full-day trip, but pricing will vary by location.

Placencia, Belize

Belize has blue Caribbean water and lots of fishing options. My favorite resorts are in Placencia, a more up-and-coming area than Ambergris Caye. It’s also worth checking out Turneffe Island Resort – I’m waiting on a quote from them, so I haven’t included it below.

I think Belize would be a great fit, but the direct flights don’t quite line up with your dates. You would have to travel 2/3-27, 2/28-3/4, or 3/9-3/13 to get those.

Travel: 4.5hrs to Belize City ($318$408) + 30 min flight to Placencia ($247)

Hotel 1: It’zana

It’zana is the newest and most stylish hotel in Placencia – It’s one of the best-designed hotels in Belize. One caveat is that the service, while friendly, isn’t as attentive as you would expect at a luxury hotel. It is a lower price point than other options, and I can get Tablet Pro benefits with free breakfast here.

Beach Deluxe Room

  • Saturday 2/3 – Wednesday 2/7: $3,095.19
  • Wednesday, 2/28 – Monday, 3/4: $4,112.05

Beachfront Suite

  • Saturday, 3/9 – Wednesday, 3/13: $3,459.33

Hotel 2: Turtle Inn

Turtle Inn, owned by Francis Ford Coppola, is the original Placencia luxury resort with a record of good service. The room categories are pretty variable, but I think the Balinese-styled two-bedroom villas are good if you’re willing to pay a little more. There is also a smaller cottage option, but I don’t love it. I should be able to get Virtuoso benefits that include breakfast and a $100 resort credit, but I need to confirm with the hotel for these dates.

2 Bedroom Seafront Villa

  • Saturday 2/3 – Wednesday 2/7: $5,699.04

2 Bedroom Garden View Villa

  • Wednesday, 2/28 – Monday, 3/4: $6,689.80

Poolside Gardenview Cottage

  • Saturday, 3/9 – Wednesday, 3/13: $2,623.84

Isla Holbox, Mexico

Isla Holbox is like Tulum 10 years ago – and nothing like Cancun. There aren’t luxury resorts here, just a lot of small boutique hotels clustered along the beach. The laid-back little island is known for whale sharks but also has some nice flats to fish on the backside.

Travel: 4hrs to Cancun ($535)+ 2.5 hr car/ferry ride to Isla Holbox
There are cheaper flights available, but the one linked above was the most reasonable time of day.

Hotel: Ser Casasandra

Ser Cassandra is my favorite spot on the island. Their smaller rooms are all booked, but this large apartment has its own kitchen, which would be nice if you wanted to cook some meals.

Origin Luxury Apartment

  • Friday, 3/8- Tuesday, 3/12: $4,828.42

Andros, Bahamas

You’ve already been to the Bahamas, so I don’t know if you want to go back. Andros is one of the best fishing destinations around, so I thought I’d include it as an option in case you wanted to try a new hotel there.

Travel: 3hrs to Nassau ($298) + Flight to Andros (15min)

Hotel: Kamalame Cay

Kamalame is one of my favorite spots. It’s on a remote part of the island, just offshore. It’s super peaceful but there is nothing really to do in the area except the resort. It’s a rustic castaway vibe. This option would push you a little over budget after flights, but it’s also the most exclusive option on here because it’s on a private island.
