How much do your services cost?
After a free initial consultation, we charge a nonrefundable $350 planning fee if you decide to proceed with an itinerary. If you know exactly what you want, we can book single hotels for free. We can give you a custom quote for trips longer than two weeks, groups of more than six travelers, and last-minute holiday travel. Once your trip is booked, significant changes to the itinerary dates and outline will incur another $50 fee.
How do you get paid?
Hotels and tour operators pay us a commission for bookings. This doesn’t sway our decisions about accommodation, however, because a repeat customer is more valuable than a slightly more expensive room.
How much do the hotels you book typically cost per night?
We book predominantly 4- and 5-star hotels. The price range is variable depending on the destination. The best hotel in some countries costs only $300 per night, while some luxury safaris cost over $3000 per person per night.
Can you only book the hotels on this website?
No, we can book anything! These hotels are just a selection of our favorites. We have already cataloged a worldwide hotel list, and we will slowly roll it out online as production time allows.
Do you book cruises?
Yes, but honestly, we aren’t experts on large ships. Still, we know quite a bit about smaller boats that cruise in wild places like Alaska, the Amazon, and the Galapagos. They are really fun to work into an itinerary. Learn more about some of our favorites…
Should I get travel insurance?
Like most people, we have mixed feelings about insurance–you don’t need it until you really need it! However, with the turbulence the travel industry has seen from the pandemic and the large financial investment a luxury vacation is, we recommend purchasing it. It has helped clients in the past. We are happy to share some of our favorite providers.
How sustainable are the hotels you work with?
Sustainability is hard. Most of the hotels we use are doing something, but there is a spectrum of commitment to change. All are taking the basic steps of waste reduction and community engagement. Many–especially in wild places–are completely solar-powered and have wildlife conservation programs. Carbon offsets are a complicated topic, but some of our travel providers sell them for your trip as well.
We highlight best practices on our blog and engage travelers in these programs when possible. Also, to help compensate for the footprint of international travel, we set aside 10% of our profits for conservation organizations.
