Solio Lodge in Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau is East Africa’s premier rhino destination, and now there is a new activity to make it even more exciting for animal lovers. Solio Rhino Orphanage opened last year, only five minutes from the lodge, where a dedicated team of keepers gives orphaned rhino calves a second chance at life.
The orphanage is now open to guests of all ages. For a small donation, you can watch these playful calves wallow in mud, help with their feeding, or even accompany them on a supervised stroll. It’s a rare opportunity to see rhinos up close while directly supporting their care and rehabilitation. Visits can be organized upon arrival at the lodge, and all proceeds will go towards the animals’ care.
Feeding times are every two hours from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please arrive 15 minutes before your time slot, as the rhinos follow a strict routine.
