The Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya is possibly our favorite part of the country. There isn’t as much wildlife as the more popular Maasai Mara, but the landscapes are dramatic, the people are authentic, and there are few tourists compared to other areas. This year, Sarara, one of our favorite safari companies, is opening the wildest camp in the 850,000-acre Namunyak Community Conservancy. This is on the border of the Samburu National Reserve, giving travelers convenient game-drive access to an even larger area.

Sarara Wilderness is a classic canvas-tented camp that can be booked exclusively with up to six tents for private groups, with rates starting at 1-4 guests. Guests here won’t miss out on the comforts of larger camps and will enjoy solar-heated bucket showers, a spa treatment tent, and a mobile cold plunge pool. Groups will have a private Samburu host, staff, and safari vehicle to take you on game drives. Some of the prevalent species in the area include leopard, lion, elephant, and reticulated giraffe. Cultural tours with the local community are also available because all of Sarara’s camps partner with the local Samburu government to improve the livelihoods of local residents.

This is one of the most remote and exciting exclusive-use camps in Africa. Contact us to learn more about booking it for your group.
