A Highly Anticipated Camp Opening in Amboseli

Amboseli National Park in southern Kenya is one of Africa’s most well-known safari areas and is home to some of the last remaining old “tusker” elephants. Surprisingly, the park didn’t have a luxury lodge to match its stature until Angama Amboseli opened its doors on November 1.

The property is the second project from the team behind Angama Mara, a tastefully modern safari camp with a jaw-dropping view of the Maasai Mara. The ten suites of this new camp employ the same clean lines and muted earth tones that were so successful in the Mara, but the plains view is replaced by fever trees and Mount Kilimanjaro. Guests will enjoy the game-viewing tower, or Mnara, where you can sip a sunset cocktail while watching elephants drink at a nearby marsh.

Angama Amboseli is located in the 5,700-acre community-owned Kimana Sanctuary, 45 minutes from Amboseli National Park. While this is a small reserve by African standards, the game viewing is excellent because the land is a crucial wildlife corridor between the Tsavo, Chyulu Hills, and Amboseli ecosystems. In addition to herds of elephants, there are giraffes, zebra, eland, wildebeest, and occasional leopards and cheetahs in the reserve. Full or half-day game drives traverse the reserve as well as the nearby national park. Other activities include walking safaris, hot air balloon rides, and in-room spa treatments.
