Will & Allison’s Honeymoon Safari

June 22-30, 2025

I’ve included some ideas below for inspiration along with ballpark numbers based on published 2024 rates with a possible 10% price increase. I like to be transparent, but the final pricing and availability is TBD. I started with Kenya, but I’ve also included South Africa, because I think you can get nicer camps for your budget.

Kenya

I like that you are drawn to Kenya, and June is a good month to go. Based on your timeline, I think we can only fit in Nairobi and one safari stop. If you stay at Giraffe Manor, you’ll get the full giraffe breakfast experience. However, I can still schedule a visit to the adjacent giraffe center where you can see and feed the giraffes.

For the safari, I would suggest a private reserve near the Maasai Mara or Laikipia near Mount Kenya. In the Mara, House in the Wild or Mara Expeditions are good options in the $1000 per person per night price range. Lewa House in Laikipia is also a comparable option.

Giraffe Manor with Safari and Seychelles
Giraffe Manor is $2300/nt. If you include 4 nights on safari at House in the Wild and the flights and 3 nights at the Hilton Northolme in Seychelles you’re getting close to $16,000. Four nights at the beach is also better if you can fit it.

Giraffe Manor Alternates
If you drop the Seychelles and add one more night on safari you get the price down to around $13,600. Alternatively, if you book Hemingways Nairobi and a day trip to the Giraffe Centre, you can get the price down to around $12,400.

Kenya on Budget
None of these are quite on budget, but if you go further out in the Laikipia region, 5 nights at El Karama Lodge plus Giraffe Manor would be around your $11k budget. It’s a cool family run lodge, but the wildlife isn’t quite as dense as the Mara or central Laikipia area.

South Africa

The private reserves around Kruger National Park have some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa. Because of its massive size there are plenty of places to choose from at a variety of prices. There are also some good 25% off honeymoon offers to take advantage of in South Africa. I’ve included them in the prices below, but I don’t have confirmation all will be available for 2025. You can also do a great safari in the Eastern Cape region and combine your trip with the Winelands and Cape Town, which I’ve included as an option.

Kruger Safari Options
There are lots of good safari options in the greater Kruger area, but I would lean towards the following for you. The rough price given is for four nights, which is a good minimum. You will also need $650 for flights and airport costs.

  • Tanda Tula: This is a newly remodeled luxury lodge in a wild and remote location. Great game viewing. $9,000
  • Jabulani: Luxury lodge with unique elephant experience. You will still have a good safari, but the location is less wild than Tanda Tula. I also need to confirm this offer more than others. $6,700
  • Simbavati River Lodge: This is in a comparable location to Tanda Tula, but it’s less luxurious and smaller. Still a nice camp. $6,700

Cape Winelands and Safari Combo
The Winelands near Cape Town are great for hiking and dining out. While June isn’t peak season because the weather is less predictable and there aren’t leaves on the vines, it’s still super pretty. From here it’s a short flight to the Eastern Cape region, which has really good safaris now because of conservation work.

You get a really nice trip for the price too. My favorite spots including La Cle in the Winelands and Kwandwe for safari have great specials. I would estimate $7,500 for 4 nights on safari and 4 nights in the Winelands at these – which is a great deal.

Extensions
If you wanted to do 5 nights on safari in Kruger, you could combo with a couple nights at great spa in Johannesburg to round out the trip. Those cost $450-500/nt. You could also add Cape Winelands or a beach resort in South Africa for around $1,000-2,000.

Mozambique is also a great extension. Four nights is best, but I think three will work. Azura Benguerra is my favorite combo based on price and quality. This would add about $6000 to the trip for 3 nights with flights. With the cheapest Kruger safari it puts the total at around $13,000 and possibly around $11,000 with a Kwandwe safari.
